How much does Novlr cost?

Novlr Free is completely free! We want every writer to be empowered to achieve their goals, which is why we've made the basic features of our platform free to use for absolutely everyone. Included in our Free plan are 2 projects, with no limits on chapters or words, access to goals and streaks, and distraction-free focus mode.

We also offer two additional subscription tiers. A Starter plan, which offers unlimited projects and access to writing analytics, and a Studio plan, which includes additional features like epub export, and optional Google Drive and Dropbox integrations. We also offer a lifetime option for $499, which includes co-ownership of Novlr. We are the only creative writing platform part-owned by the writers who use it, so if you'd like to learn more, please visit https://www.novlr.org/co-ownership.

We accept all major credit and debit cards, including Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. We also accept PayPal. When you sign up, you’ll be charged at the start of the next monthly billing cycle, or at the start of your annual subscription period if you subscribe annually.

Question 2

Can I use Novlr offline?

| As long as you’ve opened the app with an active internet connection, you can continue to work when you drop connection and sync back up when you reconnect.

When you’re online, your words sync with our servers automatically. If you go offline or your Wi-Fi goes down, Novlr switches to ‘offline mode,’ storing your work locally (to the browser). This means that if you are offline and then come back online, the words will sync and be saved on our servers.

When you enter offline mode, you’ll get a popup on the bottom of your screen letting you know, and an icon will be visible in the top left corner of your writing screen. When you’re back online, you’ll receive another pop-up to let you know it has synced, and that icon will disappear.

||| While we have protections in place for when your internet connection drops, we do not recommend using Novlr offline for long periods. We keep your work safe by syncing it with our servers, so the longer you write without a sync, the more likely it is that device errors can occur.

Question 3

What happens to an archived project?

If you archive a project manually, or additional projects are archived because you downgraded from Novlr Pro or Plus, they will switch to read-only mode. You will still see them in your Novlr dashboard, and you will be able to export them at any time.

When a project is archived, it's analytics data will also be removed until it is un-archived.

Do I own the copyright to my words?

Let there be no confusion. You own your words. Ownership and access to your writing is something that’s important to us and is something we’re very clear about. Your words are your words. Novlr is just a tool to help you write them.

While Novlr requires an active subscription to write, edit, and add new projects beyond the two projects included in Novlr Free, you can access and export your already written words at any time. We firmly believe that if you’ve written it, you should have access to it. You can log in to your account to export and access your writing whenever you like, without having to pay a cent.

We stake no claim over any of your written words. You can read more about this in our Terms of Service. While we can’t promise it will be an exhilarating read, we can promise that you are the sole copyright holder of anything you write while you’re using Novlr.

Question 5

What are co-ownership credits?

Credits are how we track your contribution to Novlr’s collective co-ownership effort.

Credits can be earned through several avenues, including volunteering time and expertise, being an active member of our community, subscribing to Novlr Plus or Pro, referring new users or co-owners, and making purchases on the platform.

As the co-op or trust is set up when we reach our wave co-ownership goal (see our letter of intent for more info), when Novlr becomes profitable, your credits will be the basis for your share of the profits.

Question 6

If I don't live in the USA do I still pay in US dollars?

| Novlr Starter and Studio plans are charged in US Dollars

No matter where you are, you pay with your credit/debit card as usual, and our payment processor (Stripe) calculates the amount based on converting from USD at that point in time.
