Can I use Novlr offline?

If you’re working somewhere without an internet connection, or your wi-fi goes down, don’t worry – you can still use Novlr!

As long as you’ve opened the app with an active internet connection, you can continue to work when you drop connection and sync back up when you reconnect.

When you’re online, your words sync with our servers automatically. If you go offline or your Wi-Fi goes down, Novlr switches to ‘offline mode,’ storing your work locally (to the browser). This means that if you are offline and then come back online, the words will “sync to the cloud” and be saved on our servers.

When you enter offline mode, you’ll get a popup on the bottom of your screen letting you know, and an icon will be visible in the top left corner of your writing screen. When you’re back online, you’ll receive another pop-up to let you know it has synced, and that icon will disappear.

While we have protections in place for when your internet connection drops, we do not recommend using Novlr offline for long periods. We keep your work safe by syncing it with our servers, so the longer you write without a sync, the more likely it is that device errors can occur.
